Producing a car w/outsourced gearbox from a bancrupt AI company
Hello.

Recently stumbled across something I couldn't find a way to resolve, or maybe it's a bug.
An AI company went bankrupt and I was asked if I wanted to buy them. I did, and it turned out that one of the car models of that bankrupt AI company used an outsourced gearbox from a different AI company.
As a result, when I go to Factory menu and try to adjust the production of this model, a yellow text appears, saying "Production is limited to 0 units due to outsourced Gearbox supplies". I found what gearbox model is, went to RnD Department, opened Outsource screen and found said gearbox model in the list, but there's no option to buy it or cancel the deal, only the text, saying "We have purchased this model from [AI company] Astro Damelore". Meanwhile, from what I can see, I have 0 of said gearboxes in the inventory, therefore, I can't produce a single car of this model from a bankrupt AI company that I bought.

Has anyone else encountered such problem?

I don't have the game right in front of me this second, but if I am not mistaken if you want to order more components you need to go into contracts then manage. In that window/panel you can manage your outsourcing contracts. Order more, end the contracts, etc.

The outsourcing window in RnD is for inital acquisition and making avaliable designs. Once you aquire designs, it's managed via the contracting system since it is a contract with another company.

When I get back to the office I'll let you know the exact location if you can't find it.

Sorry for the late reply, finally back in the office for evening.

I was incorrect about the location. What you're looking for is RnD->Outsource->Manage. This is where you manage outsourced components. You would select Gearbox from the drop down list, then select the model of gearbox. Type in how many more you want to order and hit "Order". The other location is in the Mega Menu, Autocommands, "Outsourced Contracts".

Thank you for your response. I found Manage menu, but that's what it looks like for me:

Tried waiting 1 month – same thing. Tried to buy a different component from another AI company – it appears on this screen, and I indeed can buy more of it or terminate the contract. But the one that the bankrupt AI company used to buy still isn't there.

Yeah I had this issue, but I just allocated the production anyway and they seem to get built.

Could you email me the save game and tell me which vehicle, so I don't have to spend a lot of time trying to duplicate it?

Thanks!

Maybe you had some in inventory before? Both normal production and auto-production doesn't work for me.

Sent you an e-mail with a save game.

Thanks for the save game.

Looking at the RnD->View->Gearboxes, it shows that the "0-13 4 Speed" is discontinued. If you wish to order more, you will need to reactivate the component. You can do this by going to RnD->Modify->Gearbox->Restart Production.
After you Activate that Gearbox again, you may manage it via the Outsourcing Manage function.

So this isn't a bug, just an oversight on your part. The AI had discontinued the Gearbox, and was most likely going to discontinue the vehicle model before you bought them out.

Either way, I will put in a mechanism that will discontinue the vehicle if the player buys an AI company with outsourced components that are discontinued.

Ah, I see now. Thank you for clarifying.
I didn't know that it got discontinued. When I found it in the list among outsourced gearboxes available for purchase I just naturally thought that since it's there, it means it wasn't discontinued by an AI company that was selling it.

The AI manufacturing the component didn't discontinue it. The AI buying the component did.

Either way, I should probably address this sort of situation in one of the upcoming patches.

It is unrelated to the topic, but in the same game I noticed something else: a factory in Philadelphia, US (the one I got from the bankrupt AI company) shows 100% wear and "Recondition" menu only says "The factory does not need further reconditioning". Is there something I'm missing?
