Do component parts naturally improve over the course of the game?
Since development looks to just be new parts, i'm wondering if it becomes easier to make better components down the line. So for example will a NA V8 made in 1940 be inherently better than the same engine designed in 1920? This could be covered in a tutorial so if so tell me which one, i just sort of figured out the basics and learned ad hoc

In short yes!
Dont ask me how much but even with the same skill an 1940 engine will be better as an 1920 engine with the same slidersetting. And ofcourse if your designskills grow you got an aditional bonus.

To expand on Xylon's answer,

-Skill requirement for sub-components decline every year.

-Sub-components values themselves remain the same. This is why we have multiple tiers for items like Electric fuel types and turbos. I hope we can rework this system via the Feature Bounty.

-Specs for chassis, engines, gearboxes improve every year using the same sub-components and slider positions as previous years.

-Ratings of existing designs decline every year.

-The requirements to reach certain ratings increases every year for most ratings not tied to specific specs. For example, fuel rating requirements do not increase year to year, but power ratings will.
