Okay. I didn't know all that. I just wish they could work something out.
Current copyright owner should profit because they bought the rights for the original game though if they use RVGL's patches then they should share some profit with the RVGL team too for their work. This business and profit thing aside from pure gamer point of view, online races with RVGL and Revolt House is quite complicated for an average person. But if they patch things on steam then everyone can enjoy this beautiful game and I could play online. LOL
I get the being free to use sentiment, I am not saying stop the free RVGL. Let it be free to use, just let the steam users too the have easy access to this fun. Its like I am 33 years old, I used to play this game (just the demo first stage) with my school friends when we were kids. I am the most tech savy guy in my circle and I couldn't get the Revolt House port forwarding work despite seeings the guides on how to do it. I have friends those who can't even install the RVGL patch, I have to do it for them LOL. But they all can install games from steam and play them online. Steam is just easy and convenient. So RVGL patch via steam would really help a lot of users like us. As you said "its about it being free to use and have fun for everybody." (stress on fun for everybody part) :)
There is even a new RVGL Launcher that installs both the game and custom content in the form of IO packs (I don't use it as I don't need it), the most idiotprooof custom installer there could be for RVGL (outside of having everything in one/two clicks on steam) and people are still having problems. I understand if they have repository errors on linux, but a simple install?
If they can't do that, maybe instead of pressuring Wego/H2 into taking over/selling RVGL (which will never happen), maybe they should pressure them to sell the IP to RVGL devs? (Not that these Koreans would care about that, hint: they don't at all about anything, they just grab the cash with the least amount of input and work needed).
