Rise of Nations: Extended Edition

Rise of Nations: Extended Edition

No sound in the game
Hello chaps

I just wanted to start this forum to bring this issue up and see if anyone else is having them. the intro cutscenes all work fine but as soon as I get into the game itself, there seems to be no sound. I've tried skimishes, campaigns, and fiddled with the audio settings but nothing seems to work.

Is anyone else getting these issues?

FIXED: Switch GX off from the Sonar DG Audio Centre.

Cheers

try verifying the cache. Right click on steam's rise of nations icon, then settings and local files. You will see the option verify cache.

I had no sound, closed and reopened the game, and bam, sound. It also immediately goes away if I alt+tab and only seems to be fixed by restarting the game.

I'm sorry to say that none of these suggestions were successful in my case.

No sound too
Same thing. It seems like for now alt+tabbing is not reccomended. Hopefully they'll get that sorted soon.
I'm going to try reinstalling.

Make sure the sound is turned on in the options menu.
Welp. Reinstalled and still doesn't work. I'm out of ideas and just going to hope for a patch.

Well actually restarting the game helped. When I quit, it downloaded something and then it worked

Adding my name here too.....

FFS skybox. I am still unable to play AoM due to crashes, and foolishly bought RoN since I love this game SO MUCH.

The sheer level of failure at Skybox Labs is so massive that i've gone past aggravated all the way into some strange hybrid state of impressed and irate.

I wanted the convenience of Steam and the Steamworkshop for RoN, so I bought it DESPITE having the Retail, CD version already installed. The retail version WORK PERFECTLY FINE ON MY Win7 computer.

Skybox, how the flying f--- do you keep botching these so badly?

Let's not have this thread get too dramatic. I just want to see suggestions and options, and failing that, raise awareness of this issue so it can be sorted quickly and without fuss.

It's a problem with the audio codec. The game uses ADPCM, which pretty much doesn't work under Windows 7. I've had this problem with the retail version, although in the past, I could solve it by downloading an older version of the codec. But for a year or so now this doesn't work either. (The solutions on the Microsoft Knowledge Base are worthless here, because they're for Win98 and WinXP, haven't been updated for a decade now.)
I bought the steam version, hoping they updated the codec usage for the engine, but seems like they didn't really care. Wasted 16 euros, so I'm trying to be hopeful for now, seeking solutions.
