I think I found a way to get it working for now. If you right click Witcher 3 from the library and go to setting, then go to controller and select Enable Steam Input. Seems to have fixed it for me!

I did this, and at least the controller is working, but the button layout is all messed up, and the look sensitivity is at like 1000x

Hi, the game only recognize the first controller you connected after boot. So make sure to disconnect all controllers, restart windows, and only connect the controller you are using.

The game doesn't know which controllers were connected when unless it's already running. Even if that were accurate, you don't need to restart Windows, just disconnect all but one controller.

Source: I literally just tried it with two controllers while the game was running. I disconnected one, connected the other, worked fine.

Same here, works in Spiderman Remaster but not W3. If this was system base, we would see the issue across other games. This is W3 specific. CDPR made some changes.....

Right click on the game then click properties, controller, select (eg XBOX Controller) and then once done enable steam input. It worked for me Good luck buddy

I turned on steam input and that got my controller input working, but now if my mouse goes to sleep my controller stops working.

Yeah, I can confirm. If you accidentally connect the controller through Bluetooth, it will stop working through the normal connection, until you reboot windows completely.
Even if you used the default connection first and then switched to bluetooth.

IF you have other controllers like wheel, button box, pedals, hand brakes, HOTAS... etc, it will not work.
