Massive performance drop after changing from borderless windowed to full screen and then back
So, with my settings on borderless windowed, I was getting about 100 fps and decided to try out fullscreen once just to try, got a bug(?) where the game suddenly became minimized, so I changed it back after restarting as it was now stuck minimized. Now, whenever I load my game, my FPS is literally in the 10s.

I have no idea what happened - if I turn off ray tracing and put everything to low, it does get back up to 60 fps or so, but what is going on. Changing from borderless to full screen doesn’t ‘reset’ it, I just can’t get back my original performance no matter what I do now. How can I fix this?

go to folder
Documents\The Witcher 3
all your choices/preferences/graphics are stored in those .settings files.

best option: restore a backup copy of each .settings file from BEFORE you decided to try out fullscreen

no backup: have no idea which setting changed so start over with new vanilla settings.
you can move all the .settings files to another folder
then steam verify game files then try the game which will create new .settings files

or wait for another forum post - maybe someone knows which setting needs tweaking

Windows can do weird stuff like that if you have a 2nd monitor hooked up. For me I have to turn on the 2nd monitor then i'm fine. Then there's DPI scaling that can also play weird tricks. I have both of the witcher.exe properties set to Compatibility / Change high DPI settings / High DPI scaling Override / Override high dpi scaling behavior. Scaling performed by / Application
