Sorry to hear that you're unable to access the main prison levels.
It sounds as though your game might be unable to update or create new files.
Can you please follow the steps below to ensure that you have the appropriate permissions for altering and saving local files:
- Launch Steam
- Navigate to the 'Library'
- Right Click on the title of the game
- Select 'Properties'
- Navigate to the 'Local Files' tab
- Click 'Browse Local Files...'
- Select all content in the folder that appears and right click
- Select 'Properties'
- Ensure that 'Read-only' is not ticked
- Click on the 'Advanced' button
- Ensure that the second option 'Allow files in this folder to...etc' is ticked
Once you have completed these steps, please run a file cache integrity check and then attempt to progress past the tutorial:- Load Steam
- From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.
- Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game cache... button.
- Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.
- Once the process is completed, the Check Window will automatically exit.
Should the problem be persisting at this point, it may be that you are experiencing a rare issue, affecting an unfortunate handful of our players. To check for this, please head to the directory below:
C:\Users\*Username\Documents\The Escapists
*Username should be your own system username. If you’d like to navigate straight to this destination, please just open ‘Documents’ while logged into your system account, then navigate to ‘The Escapists’ folder.
While in this folder, please gather screenshots of the following, for your response:
- All of the folders contents
- The contents of all save folders (which appear as save1 / save2 / save3)
Should ‘The Escapists’ folder not appear to exist, please create it within your ‘Documents’ and attempt to generate save data. Please inform me of any change in circumstance once you’ve attempted each of these actions.
As an apology for the inconvenience, I'd also like to share the secret code to unlock all prisons with you:
The code is as below and should be performed with the arrow keys in the prison select screen.
• Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right
Thank you,

Sorry to hear that this is happening - would it be possible to see your system information so that we can try to help? To do this:
- Hold down the Windows Key and press R, the Run dialogue should appear > Type dxdiag in the available text field > Click OK
- Click Save All Information > Save the file DxDiag.txt to your Desktop so it is easy to find
- Open the .txt file, copy all the contents > Paste all the contents to a free text hosting service such as http://justpaste.it, http://textuploader.com or http://freetexthost.com
- Copy the link to your post

I have exactly the same problem, my game won't save
I followed the solutions listed above and they did not help, so I had to fulfill the requirements below (yours) and here is a link to them: https://justpaste.it/7rlty
