Utility: BzAtlasGen
BzAtlasGen is an utility to create a Battlezone 98 Redux Texture Atlas from a 1.x TRN File and accompanying textures.

You can use this utility to simplify the porting of custom planets for Battlezone 1.5 maps and missions to Battlezone 98 Redux. You can preview the result and export it to a variety of different image formats.

System Requirements:

- Visual Basic 6 Runtimes
- Microsoft Common Controls 5.0
- Battlezone 98 Redux

Did you add a system to check if an existing atlas is usable or just go the route of regenerating an atlas every time?

Hi I have been trying to get the BzAtlasGen to run but have having trouble finding the Microsoft common controls 5.0. I did find common controls 6 on the MS site but it didn't seem to install comctl32.ocx which is what BzAtlasGes is looking for. I think I installed vbrun 6 but I had to set compatibility mode and the install box pops up and disappears so fast I can't tell if it worked lol. I'm on windows 10 btw

anyway any ideas on how I might be able to get this to run?

Thanks

@Niek1: The utility is designed to create an atlas for a planet that one doesn't already exist for, I did not really intend it as a general purpose utility to run on every map when porting to Redux.

@Uglydog777: By far the easiest way to get it to work is to download the Visual Basic 6.0 Runtime Plus[sourceforge.net], for this particular application, you will only have to install the "Visual Basic 1.0 to 6.0 Core Runtime Library" and "Visual Basic 1.0 to 6.0 Runtime Controls and Components".

Ah Goomba that worked like a charm.. Thank you very much. Now I would like to pick your brain a little more.

Now that I have created a custom atlas dds from one of my old map. I'm guessing that is not the end of it seeing how the map is still all white when I load it up lol. Do I need to create a .material file also is it necessary to create a normal map, specular map so on, or can you get away with just using a diffuse map. And lastly can I delete all the old .map textures from the directory once the atlas.dds is made.

Again thank for all your help.

Hey Goomba, your dropbox link says it's suspended access due to too much traffic - any other way to get it?

I just grabbed it easy as pie, so here I'll host it to ya Duq,

Thanks Jim, I should have updated the post, I was able to get it earlier! Much appreciated tho, I'm sure the more of us that have it and can pass it along to anyone else interested, the better!

Norton indicates BzAtlasGen and Squish are untrusted. EMSISoft indicates the executable may be infected with malware. Has anyone had trouble after installing this software? Can this software be trusted?

What alternatives are available for deploying old BZ 1.5 strategy maps that do not rely on custom textures to Battlezone 98 Redux?

Well you're using Norton, so there's your first problem ;)

The program itself is clean, but I'd advise trusting the dropbox link over the mirrored version because... well, mirrored version.

The programs should be fine but I can't vouch for them as I didn't make them, I can only vouch for the creator's reputation. I can provide my atlas generator if needed (at least one dev on the redux team actually used it) but it's pure CLI designed to be used in large batch jobs and is thus a bit more obtuse.
