I started Rimworld thinking I’d build a nice colony, maybe farm some potatoes, commit a small war crime or two.

Then I met Steve.

Steve was not special.
Steve could barely shoot.
Steve once lost a fight to a squirrel.

But Steve… was mine.

Everything was going fine until a group of raiders showed up, beat the entire colony into the ground, killed one colonist, downed the rest, and kidnapped Steve like he was the main character of an action movie.

At that moment, everything changed.

This was no longer a colony simulator.
This was a personal vendetta simulator.

Day 1 after Steve kidnapping:
“We’ll rebuild.”

Day 10:
“We’ll get stronger.”

Day 50:
“I will burn this entire planet to find him.”

I trained soldiers.
I built killboxes.
I researched weapons that probably violate multiple galactic treaties.

Every caravan I sent out had one goal: FIND Steve

Eventually I found him

He was missing a kidney

BUT HE WAS ALIVE

The rescue mission:

12 colonists
6 died
3 lost limbs
1 had a mental break and started beating the furniture mid-battle

100% Worth it

We brought Steve home

He immediately Had a mental breakdown, Insulted the doctor and Set fire to the dining room.
Perfect. Just like I remember him.

11/10 Game.
Came for colony management.
Stayed for the emotionally unhinged rescue arc.

I no longer play to survive.
I play to protect Steve.

You'd think after nearing 2800 hours in this game (And nearly a decade) I'd be able to write a solid and cohesive review for this game.
But honestly, I still am at a loss for words. I spent the first 50ish hours trying to learn it, and the rest of the time just having fun. It's a brilliant colony management sim that you can play in more ways that I can count. Whatever happens in one playthrough, likely wont happen in another (Even if you start nearly exactly the same). After the amount of DLC added (and Randy Random forbid mods). There are endless ways to play and enjoy this game.
It might not be for everyone, but if you like Colony/Colony story driven games. It's for you. Has, and will always be a 10/10 game for me.

I cannot state how good this game is, Base game is really good, modded is crazy, and I've had so many different stories from this from amazing moments of total mud stomping the enemy, to Crisis scrambling to pick up the ashes.
And funny odd ones where a group of 10 cats joined my colony, only for lightning to kill half of them and then a meteor killed the rest...Thank you Randy, I didn't know you hated cats so much.
