Couple of levels I find to be a spike in difficulty (Inkheart Tier 1, Bottomless Pit Tier 3) and playing marksman can be tough early on. But you should be able to complete Tiers 1 & 2 without replaying at least.
Once you get to Tier 3, you'll be able to survive 10+ waves of endless and that will add 10 levels or more to your character so you can easily over-level if you get stuck. Based on that I'd say grinding is minimal.
Tier 4 is more about optimising point allocations. If you spread too thin, you'll need to re-spec. Plus, upgraded godlike gear towards the end.
