Controls need serious work
Controls on this game need a lot of work.

People get caught on doors, there is no way to pivot on the spot, the pathing is god awful, no hotkeys for selecting characters, Selecting the character or object you want in a packed room is nearly impossible, leading hostages is very tedious.

Fun game, but very difficult to play with precision. Not because the game is that hard but because the pathing and controls need a complete overhaul.

Some suggestions:

Make doors have two states: opened or closed. The swing physics they have right now just gets in the way and serves to screw up your entire heist

Hotkeys! This is 2015, switching between guys should be as easy as a button press. Having to go find a guy, left click him, then right click him is overly complex, especially in a game where things can get really cramped and it becomes easy to misclick.

Pivoting on the spot, or lock-on. Let me turn my guys on the spot, Right now the only way to pivot is to move then pivot by holding right click. Sometimes it is preferable to turn on the spot and moving to a new spot before pivoting will just screw things up. Another nice feature would be to have a guy lock onto a target and turn with them so that they are always in the center of their view cone. (Like Z targeting in Zelda: Ocarina of Time) They would be immobile and just there to keep hostages from running.

Loot key! Clicking, as I have said, can be super inaccurate in this game. A nice feature would be a loot key that I can hit to grab the cash items near to my character.

Follow command: Let me select one of my guys and a hostage and have a toggle setting where they move as one, as if my character has a gun poking them in the back, this will remove the tedium of leading a hostage into a room to lock them in or beat\kill them out of sight.

All in all positioning your guys is crucial to success in this game yet its hard to do with 100% precision. This is my number one gripe with this otherwise amazing early access game.

Kudos by the way, and keep up the great work!!

there is no way to pivot on the spot = wrong
no hotkeys for selecting characters = wrong

As Jason says, THERE IS hotkeys to select goons

Can you their numbers?
Press them to select.

Hey Heebejeebes. Apart from the hotkey and turn in place thing, your points are completely valid. Especially now seeing people play it at PAX it's painfully obvious that imprecision in both pathfinding and assigning movements causes more deaths than failures by the player. I'd really like to push the difficulty level, but that requires the controls to be absolutely impeccable.
In the coming weeks, the top priorities should be stability of the game and improving existing features to make the current content more enjoyable to play.

I'd really like to make the players fail by their actions instead of the game failing for them :) Cause you know, really solid really hard games are fun.

Thanks for your feedback, really appreciate it.

I appriciate you taking the time to read and evaluate my comments. Also, how do I pivot in place?? So far I have only been able to right click on unoccupied ground and hold to change the facing. This of course moves them first then changes the facing when they reach their new destination.

Good feedback! To turn in place, have goon selected, push and hold right-click down over him, then move the cursor to the direction you want him to face and the goon will rotate on the spot. (Note that doing this during slow-mo is harder to see, though you'll see the little facing triangle move around instantly.)

There are lots of hotkeys, but as we've never really finalised them, they are not documented anywhere - something that definitely needs fixing as well.

Any chance this game may eventually get controller support?

There is a chance cause we have an experimental test version that works with controllers (which is not available for the public), but it's not guaranteed. Any particular reason you'd rather play with a gamepad?

I want there to be an option for a control style similar to that of Hotline Miami.

Just got the game, have to agree at least on one point that the pathing can be a little troublesome.

Specifically, on the Warehouse map, I was trying to go through a window I'd just melee'd open, and he kept wanting to path back around to the locked door instead.

I finally managed to inch him through the windowsill and into the final room to loot the diamonds, went back to the window, and... he was pretty much stuck in there. I could click to get him right *onto* the windowsill, but anything past that and he'd turn around to head to the locked door.

And I have to add, in the theme of Payday... these thieves need some zipties, seriously. (Maybe a purchasable item, carry a max of 3 or something?)
Guards getting back up so fast after a knockout is quite annoying, if you don't have a key yet to lock them in a room (and sometimes they seem to bust out anyway, I dunno.)

Windows should work better now, but that particular window might have a problem, so I will take a look and see what's up.

As for zipties and/or duct tape, definitely going to add those. That's one part of the equation, and the other is making sure every level has a good place to lock them up.

Thanks for reporting the issue and feedback, much appreciated.

Completely-kinda-unrelated topic:
Are there plans for workshop support with The Masterplan?
Celeve 25 Mar, 2015 @ 5:50am
Yes, we want to include support for player made maps.

yes, only one thing are worst then my english:: my control on a keyboard, I can not just play with a keyboard, my fingers have no dexterity and I barely had to move my character, no problem with mouse, only with keyboard

i can't wait for try for steam controller, seems to be really nice
