1/3 rule
Playing Uncle Mark's Tutorials #1. At beginning of scenario, there's an ASW patrol mission with no units assigned. I have 3 aircraft in my SAG. One is ready to launch. The other two have the same ready time a couple of hours away. I see that the 1/3 rule is set. I assign all three aircraft to the mission. The helo that's ready takes off right away and flies to the mission. So far so good. A couple of hours later the first helo has already RTB'd, the other two helos become ready. At this point, because of the 1/3 rule, I figured one of the other two would launch, and the other would remain on deck in ready. But what happened was both launched and flew to the mission area.

So I obviously don't understand something about the 1/3 rule checkbox. Anyone clue me in?

It seems the UI doesn't explain this well enough, so I'll make some changes to make this clearer in the future.

I'm new in the game, but of I play I think that it's have air superiority 1/3 (per one enemy, they are 3 of your units in the zone).

Example: the enemy have 1 unit near your zone, 3 of your planes go to patrol; the enemy have 2 units near your zone, 6 of your planes go to patrol.

I don't think so. The manual says this: " 1/3 RULE: If checked, will keep 1/3 of the available aircraft airborne if possible." I'm confused because that wasn't he behavior I saw when it launched 2/3 of the aircraft available.

Please post a save file. There are numerous mission settings that may be overriding the 1/3 rule. For example, you may have set a minimum number of airborne aircraft = 2 (ie. keep at least 2 aircraft up).
Have you read the manual addendum? : http://www.warfaresims.com/?page_id=2695

Hey Dimitris, appreciate the reply! I don't know how to upload a file in these forums. But I just replicated the problem, and it should be trivial for you to. I have the Steam version of the game.

1. From start menu, start new scenario, Tutorials, then Uncle Mark's Tutorials 1...
2. Once stated, begin with no changes to the options.
3. Immediately go to the Mission Editor
4. For the pre-built "ASW Patrol" mission, notice the 1/3rd rule box is checked. Don't change any settings.
5. Click the boxes next to the three helos in the "Unassigned units" area (lynx mk88, lynx SH-14, wasp), and click the double left arrow to move them into the "Units Assigned to mission" area.
6. Time advance. The helo that's already ready launches immediately, patrols, and returns at bingo. The two that aren't get ready, become ready, and then both launch, surprising me. I expected only one to launch and the other to remain on deck, ready.

*So I guess another way to get your save game you want is simply to load the stock Uncle Mark's Tutorials 1 scenario, since I'm not changing the pre-built mission that's in there at all.

Thanks for the help!

p.s. I guess you're confirming that the intent of the 1/3rd rule is that only one of the 2 helos would launch, since there are 3 helos assigned to the mission and the 1/3 rule is checked (and that some other setting is overriding it). Let me know if that's not right.

Look forward to hearing from you!

p.p.s I have perused the addendum, but didn't see anything in there that explained this. Maybe I'm missing something, please clue me in!

Ah, makes sense. Thanks. So the a/c have to match both class and loadout for the 1/3 rule to apply? Don't forget to update the manual as well as the UI! Nice work. Loving the game!

@apache85, it would be nice too if we could have an option to ignore class all together. Would be especially useful for when the role is the same for each of the classes.

I suspect you won't get any changes in a game has a sequel and is not being actively developed.
