maybe it's because I've played a lot of classical roguelikes, but Qud immediately enticed me. I still had the same experience of "where the hell is Red Rock, what is a Salthopper, OH GOD SALTHOPPER NO", but it was a pretty smooth learning curve, especially when I strayed from my intial choice of Gunslinger and started experimenting with melee builds. but kudos for doing this, no doubt it will help many players!

also, maybe a mention of turning on mouse support and using it to path / right-click look would be useful for new players? I know I use it a lot.
