Random space time vortex(s) in large amounts?
I'm not sure what happened, and was hoping to find some insights.

I had over 100 glimmer because I'm an idiot and wielded something I'm not supposed to, and at some point many STVs started to spawn at once; I'm talking at least 6 at a time, instantly creating explosions around me and swallowing my companions (who did not have the ability, nor did I.)

This is my second esper run, my first one ended similarly when random vortices would appear, despite not having any messages about nearby hunters.

This time, I feel I had high enough clairvoyance to reasonably rule out there being 6 hunters at once. I did retreat a screen after a "they are near" message of hunters and move back and forth taking "pot shots", so there is a slim chance there were a half dozen casting it from off screen? I did systematically kill them though so I doubt that.

I don't see anything on the wiki about massive glimmer causing random STVs to appear simultaneously. My only other guess is it is somehow related to me stepping on Aloe Fugues of my own creation so I had 10+ clones, but again *I didn't have the STV mutation*, and I see nothing on wiki about that.

Is this some interaction with the Amaranthine prism? The only thing the wiki mentions about it and STVs is using precog to *unequip* it, and it is long past that.

In case it's not clear, I died. This was on classic, so I can't provide any more info.

The only thing i can think of is legendary Seeker in that area who spawned with Temporal Fugue and Vortex mutation, but if you like saw full screen with clairvoyance and there was nothing there, then idk. Could be really some 1/1000 chance C0Q shenanigan lol

There are the n-dimensional turtles. They can spawn a new vortex every 5 turns (which last for 24-28 turns each). Legendaries can also have it at pretty high levels.
Svardym Elds also have 2 random mental mutations at reasonably high level. If those vortexes all spawned at once, maybe Temporal Fugue + STV.

Or a group of n-dimensional starshells. Legendary ones are usually accompanied by a few normal ones. If a group like that somehow turned aggro (not necessarily against you), that could cause this too.

You can see the last log messages for your character in Main Menu > Records > Ended Runs > select character > scroll all the way to the bottom. Maybe that can provide some insight?
A lot of good info here, thanks.
The more I think about it, the more I think it was a legendary Hunter with fugue.

The death log unfortunately doesn't help, I don't see anything about the STVs being created, just me falling into one and getting my head drilled into by another Hunter on the other side (having ~10 willpower sucks)
I know this is way late ... but I thought I'd post here with my findings... I was having this happen nearly every map in zones with hostiles... that is until I unequipped the Otherpearl. It seems to have gotten rid of the random spawning of an insane number of vortexes around my character. Pretty good for Baetyl farming to my surprise.

Scratch that, just got hit by another wave. Though it seems to be going at a less frequent rate? Not sure what's causing it, maybe just a high glimmer? Definitely not Temp Fugue with 20 enemies casting it.
