Screen flickering / flashing on Linux
https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/1037305306

Please see the above linked example. This issue occurs when I am doing anything that updates the screen fragments. Moving around / opening menus / changing UIs all result in frequent screen flickering/flashing of white or previously viewed screens (like it's displaying something in a buffer).

I have troubleshooted things like running the game without Steam overlay, reinstalling the game, reinstalling GPU drivers (Nvidia 560.35.03 for RTX 3070), Steam, and even the OS itself, and I have the same problem. This issue does not occur on Windows on the same machine. This issue has happened for roughly a year now since the most recent time I tried to play this. I am currently on the default game version. I do not have any mods.

I have seen other people complaining about maybe the same issue here: https://www.reddit.com/r/cavesofqud/comments/1gd8znr/blinking_or_graphical_glitches_on_linux/

I know that I just posted this but I also came across a solution.

Running the game using Proton Experimental mode fixes this issue for me.
A developer of this app has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Try the -force-vulkan command line argument.

Reverting the compatibility settings and using this argument also fixes the issue.

I was experiencing the same issue, and like op, I made sure that "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" was unchecked under "Compatibility" in the game's preferences in Steam. Then, under the "General" tab, I wrote

%command% -force-vulkan

in the Launch Options.

"-force-vulkan" also fixed the issue for me! I was ready to give up... Perhaps that should be the default Linux setting?

It would just make the other half of users have the opposite problem haha.
