the dog died on the hit though... is it impossible the cap was because of not enough remaining hp?
**note** i just tried it again and looked at the effect on the units, it says "4d2 / 2"
Any idea why it is divided by 2 ? That might be the answer
thanks
Poisoned does (DamageIncrement)/2 damage per turn) and you looked at the DamageIncrement of the mutation. It is not "damage per turn" or "damage" but "Damage increment" and gets inserted into that formula.
They should probably update the mutation description to make that clearer. It is a bit weird to have to check an affected enemy to see what your mutation does in full.

Poisoning Venom is sadly rather weak after early game in general, since it has no extra scaling and stays pretty linear. The ~15 damage per turn it can add with lots of boosting/cost in very late game really does add much.
