You're completely missing the point. Its not that I'm unaware of a "give up" or "quit" button, its that its terrible game design to force me to use it.
Can you understand how unsatisfying it is to end your game, not by struggling to your last breathe, but by realizing the game has put you in an unwinnable state you have no control over, and just...having to exit? WHEW, that was fun! Time to pull the slot machine again and hope I don't get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ in my bum once more!
But, there is only so much enjoyment you can get from a series of ten minute long games that just screw you over and kill you. Or slightly longer games that lets you see some of the shiny toys you could play with, if only you had a bigger ship, then it gives you said better ship, then it kills you.
That said, I don't think it would be quite so bad, if it was slightly more forgiving about fuel. But, it isn't. You've just got to hope that wherever you are mining can produce enough fuel to keep you going (the answer to this is going to be 'No,' by the way).
Juggle resources and structures, collect and store extra fuel, don't refuel more than needed from jump - event can't subtract fuel below 0 but it might give you 100 fuel and it would be wasted.
git gud. seriously, this game is much easier than FTL for example.
The game is beautiful. Clearly a lot of work and resources have been put into drawing the graphics, making the animations, composing the music and digging out the story line.
Unfortunately, all the random encounters and events of this game screw you over way more than they should and are really killing the fun. Some Aliens in this game praise you as God. But I found that the real God of this game is RNGesus.
I also love Roguelike games and have a lot of them in my library. But most of them are hard, because they are tough. They have a steep learning curve, a high skill ceiling or a high difficulty level. Sure, RNG is part of the game and adds some "spice", like in "Darkest Dungeon".
However, this game is completely based on RNG. And if you get further than 15-20 star systems without running out of fuel or running into some devastating random events, is indeed like playing a slot machine.
And winning a lottery or hitting $ $ $ ona slot machine has nothing to do with being "gud".
I also agree with Ryuu that FTL is a lot harder. But the principle is the same. Only the learning curve of ways to survive and optimal decisions in a given scenario is even larger in FTL - there are 3 difficulty levels and the hardest of them makes FTL officially the most brutal roguelike i played so far.
I'm glad the OP didn't waste their money on a game and evidently a genre that they hate. But I have certainly gotten my money's worth out of it.
