Power influences fuel consumption, not jump range.
Maybe the ships you used back then happened to have modules that increase jump range, i know the first one i got had Tau statis installed.
Irrelevant.
For all ships, Firefly included, jump range is only determined by upgrades installed. Power has nothing to do with it, at least according to the wiki :

It can be confusing because some upgrades improve both power *and* jump range.
