or I just dunno what you could really do for clearer visual informastion unless a borderline around them? but then agian would be confusing if done wrong in this 3d view where it would change location (point of view)
The changes are more case by case.
Everything affecting gameplay is on Z=5 (6th row of cube). To remove ambiguity between background and gameplay plane, the patch identified a bunch of areas where cubes on Z=4 or Z=6 would confuse the player and removed the ambiguity (usually by make Z=4,5,6 the same)
There are other areas that were confusing Z=4,5,6 is the most typical fix.
