Can i suggest that these parts are further optimized for the engine? Whats the point to lowering all graphics if even this doesn't fix the slowdowns? I will vastly prefer a version of the game that is consistent across all parts, maybe tone down the scope of some parts to what the engine can do, instead of having framerate issues all over the place.
In some parts of the game (office complex and beginning of the game) the framerate was fantastic. I replayed the earthbound levels and even some of the levels have had a further level of polish and optimization, it overall made the game more enjoyable, but those parts that run bad make it stand out even worse than before.
I noticed that the gibs system is too over the top, with so many entities spawning from a level, from crates to bodies to soldiers and aliens and a single explosion causes slowdowns, maybe add an option for reduced gibs and debrief? I think this will be the best compromise before turning the scope of some scenes down.
Source engine doesn't perform too well with large open areas. Office Complex is an enclosed space so it'd make sense it'd run better.
It has also been stated numerous times the devs performed as much optimisation they could without compromising on the visual quality, and since the game is design locked, those things are not going to happen.
Before, in 1.0, the part that the marines shoot the vent you are in? and then you fall down and there are explosives in the door? and you escape to the outside from the car raiser? That's ONE of the parts that are greatly improved now, never going below 100 fps in my system, before it was a slideshow, why can't the devs further polish the parts that still have issues? I listed them all in my first post.
Sorry if I am being annoying, I just like this game so much and I like to see it in the best shape possible.
That said, there'll be a new patch coming later down the line, but whether or not it'd address the performance, I wouldn't know.
Hopefully performance is fully tackled in the final patch.
Hopefully the new IP turns great, and buy it like Black Mesa.
