I have good news about skse. Before you start the game, go into the player option menue.
Then go into display settings and put up the highest setting. 1920 x 1080 This worked for me and works 100% Please spread the good news. Ty

Not quite what Im looking for.
On steam, SKSE simply wont open the launcher via proton.
Ness 29 Sep, 2018 @ 4:16am
I've tried a few things, but can't get it to work either. It doesn't seem to auto launch with Skyrim like it does on Windows, attempting to launch it by itself does nothing, and attempting to run skse_launcher.exe through the proton script also doesn't seem to work. Kind of a bummer, but I guess I can deal with Skyrim's crappy UI, since SkyUI was the only thing I was using SKSE for in the first place.

----------------------------------------------

Edit: Got it to work! Turns out I was overthinking it.
  1. Right-click on Skyrim's entry in your library, select "Properties"
  2. Click the "Local Files" tab, then the "Browse Local Files..." button
  3. Backup or delete "SkyrimLauncher.exe". I just renamed it and added ".bak" to the end.
  4. Copy "skse_loader.exe" and rename it to "SkyrimLauncher.exe"
Now you should be able to select Skyrim in your library and click "Play", and it'll just work. Note, however, that this loads the game directly, so if you need to mess around with mods or settings or whatever, you'll need to do that with the vanilla SkyrimLauncher.exe in place.

WIndows is turning real weird recently and Linux in many forms is taking on ground quite nicely, and steam is using it to their advantage. Dont make comments about "using a real os" or backing windows because its popular, if you dont really know much about the other system except what other people told you.

its not the main OS "because its popular" its the main OS because unlike unix based systems, it actually works. its always been that way. thats why literally nobody other than apple has bothered trying to make a commercial version of it, though the linux folks have gone ahead and charged the hipster crowd for certain versions of their barely functional OS.

Eh, either way, this has derailed from the original. Good news is, I found my answer I was looking for.

Microsoft is a corporation. They can afford quick fixes at a moments notice. Most of what linux is producing is free. I use it because I can make it function the way I am comfortable with. Windows is reaching that point, but hasnt always been as such.

Well, if that isn't one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read. You realise many big corporations rely on Linux for their back-end stuff, right? Especially when it comes to security.

you mean that they rely on specific builds of linux (paid builds, the ones that actually function, and even then only for very very specific tasks) to do something very simple that ammounts to word processing and spreadsheet management.pretty much anything more advanced than that, and youre looking at buggy code ruining all your efforts constantly.

uhhhhhhhhh . . . . where do you get your information from? Either way, no more.

In other words the main Steam site and almost everything else is running the Apache web server on Linux and/or it is being load-balanced by Linux.

Seems like Steam is doing OK even though they are basing the public face of their infrastructure on a "barely functional OS".

Your claim that corporations "rely on specific builds of linux (paid builds, the ones that actually function, and even then only for very very specific tasks)" is also completely wrong.

Corporations are in business to make money so spending money on Linux (when they can get it free) is usually only done in cases where they want support contracts - just like they would pay for with Windows servers.

You do not know what you are talking about.
On the other hand, I do - because it is my job to do so.

Windows is a great gaming platform, no one with any sense will dispute that.
But your aspersions towards Linux and UNIX merely show your bias and ignorance.

Even Microsoft is now going to great lengths to support and accommodate Linux.

Now back to the discussion...

getskseversion in console does not work, thus script extender does not work with steamplay atm. There is a specific wine hack needed to get it working which has not been accepted upline last time I checked, this means it needs to manually be compiled for game to work with script extenders.

Hello I to am having problems, but did Ness's solution

and it did work, but now the game just completely freezes up when I try to close it, like if I try to do it thru normal means I have to shut off my computer by pressing the button, and if I use task manager it will think I am still running SKSE which is a bit of an issue, does anybody know why this is happening to me and what solution is there to stop the problem.
Pvt. Pirate 18 Sep, 2019 @ 7:50am
the "freeze on exit" also appears everytime without SKSE (at least for me).
going to try the proposed solution from Ness.

My solution to Skyrim's freeze on exit under Wine/Proton is to run "killall TESV.exe" in a console. I've been doing that for years. I imagine it will work the same with SKSE now that I found Ness's directions here for how to get it working with Proton.
