Trouble with large video files
I've noticed VD really struggles with large VR video files, the cut-off seems to be around 5GB and then the video and audio start getting out of sync and the video plays at a reduced speed or becomes choppy. I thought this was a hardware issue my end, but the same videos play perfectly with other VR video players, I just much prefer the functionality of Virtual Desktop.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

You might need the HEVC video extension installed from the Microsoft store to play some of the higher res videos: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/hevc-video-extensions/9nmzlz57r3t7?activetab=pivot:overviewtab and yes it should be free with windows but Microsoft decided to charge 99p for it ...

long time in replying, but that is the problem that HEVEC fixes. The videos will still play without it but it helps remove stuttering/lag.

Is that a Windows 10-only solution? Anyone have a good way to down-convert an HEVC video to something Windows 8.1 can play?

Windows 8.1 can’t decode HEVC, it’s a windows 10 only capability

Do you know if the free alternative mentioned in the comments of Microsoft store page works just as well? https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9N4WGH0Z6VHQ
So far it doesn't seem to make a difference, but maybe restarting the computer and headset is not all I have to do to get it to work.

I installed hevc but it's done nothing, is there a reason why virtual desktop is still not able to use hevc

Does it work on Linux? Or the entire application, for that matter?
