Virtual Desktop

Virtual Desktop

Ok, I'm confused about this program.
I have VR. A Pimax Crystal Light (and formerly a G2 HP Reverb). Now I run a few games mostly Fallout4 VR and right now SkyrimVr with mods. I'm always looking for better performance, but so far it's ok.

I keep seeing people praise this app for better performance in VR. I have a couple of questions:

1. How does this generally work? Do I have to create a whole separate section on the pc?
2. Do I have to be always online to use this?
3. Is it relatively easy to set up?

Ok that's like 4 questions...

Thanks in advance for any info.

What you mostly read are ppl that use the Quest version and thats completely different from this one here. The Quest version is an alternative way to quest link or steam link to stream SteamVR to the Quest and consists of a server software on your pc and a client on the quest.

This one here doesn't do anything for normal SteamVR games.
This is literally "just" a virtual desktop, meaning, you can use your PC with your VR HMD and play normal flat games with virtual big monitors or inside a cinema on a big screen.
It does a really great job for this, with literally no performance impact at all (using a Vive Pro 2 at around 4200x4200 res per eye with "just" a 3080TI)
It is as easy to set up as SteamVR itself, completely self explanatory, but not what you're looking for.

For better performance in VR Games you could look up OpenXR Toolkit or performance mods for FalloutVR and SkyrimVR, depending on your hardware.
