Understanding Generators
Just to see if I understand Generators correctly...

Will building a Large Generator save on Power... i.e., not eat through fuel so quickly?

-or-

Is the purpose for the Large Generator to Run "More" items.... or to run your current items more efficiently?

Currently I'm using the Small Generator at 20%... and feel like I'm burning fuel a bit too fast (2-1/2 tanks lasting about 3 days). I can build a Large Generator, but it means making a space run, which I'm not ready to do... just yet. But I'm wondering if it's worth making the run, and building the Large Generator; if it saves on Fuel.

Sorry for the 'Jumbled Questions'... wasn't really sure how to word this (grin).

Advanced Thanx!!!!

Large Generator = more power output

So you’re asking if a larger generator is more efficient than a smaller one. I don’t know but if you want you can start a new game in creative mode and try it out.

The only difference between large and small is the large one produces more power, so you can power more structures or energy hogs like Cruisers (CVs). Otherwise they burn the same amount of fuel to power the same amount of stuff.

...Again... Sorry for such a confusing question; I just wasn't sure how to word it. However, I think CrgZero answered my question.

So with the Small Generator eventually I could have so much stuff running that the generator wouldn't be able to run it all... even if I added more Fuel Tanks. Thus... the Large Generator would be able. But regardless, I will be burning the Same amount of fuel... over the same time period based on What I'm Running...and not based on the size of the Generator?!

I'm not sure if that was a question or a statement (lol). I don't know why this question is so confusing to me.

Pretty much. Or you could add a 2nd small generator.

Adding fuel tanks and fuel will increase how long the base or ship can run.

Adding generators will increase how much stuff you can run. Like more constructors, lights, food processors, or more thrusters on ships.

Your fuel consumption is based on the total power you're drawing, not on the load percentage of your total power production. Small or large generator makes no difference on fuel efficiency, only the amount of equipment you can power simultaneously. Typically a single large generator is more than sufficient to power a base. You may need 2 to 4 for a cv depending on how many thrusters and defensive turrets you add to your ship. SV's and HV's can comfortably run off a single unit although if you expect to be in combat it's always nice to have that second generator just incase you take a plasma turret and lose one. Can't tell you how many times I've lost an entire vessel all because my only generator was destroyed in volley of alien plasma turrets.

Keep weight in mind.... the more weight you are carrying the more power you will consume when you travel.

* T1 generator generates 50MW but weighs 5 tons.
* T2 generator generates 500MW but weighs the same as just 3x T1 generators (15 tons)

Dude, 2015.

Do all the items that may use power have to be physically connected (as part of a building for example)as part of one structure to be powered...or can you have a gun some distance away and still be powered because its within a certain radius of the generator ?

Generators provide power to their entire structure (and ONLY to their structure), regardless of whether they are physically connected to what they are powering (for example, I've seen a few ships on the workshop which have "wings" that are disconnected from the main body; these would still receive power from any generators on different sections).

Distanced from the generator is a non-factor; you can have a maximum-size structure with the generator on one end and a device on the opposite, and the device will still receive power.

Generators hold power too, if you lose your fuel tanks you can still fly till the power in your generators runs out.

Generators do have a range but it only affects lit textures... I think. Something affects lit textures, I haven't tested much.
