Returning player frustrated
Hi, its been a while since I last played and I just decided to fire up the ol' Nimbatus and the new campaign mode seemed really cool on the surface so I watched the intro cutscene and got work with my selected captain and... it sucks. I just don't get it.. the game is about building drones and stuff right? You start with almost no pieces and the stuff you get is random and nearly always junk. It feels like no matter how many planets I complete I never get a weapon that actually deals more consistent damage than the default blaster and that thing is BLEH to use with its terrible accuracy.

Then we have the new mechanics except none of them matter. The deploy cost is negligible even if I don't invest in storage and threat can be negated almost completely by the first garage. I almost always have enough to nearly max out stealth by the time I get there so I'm down to about 5% threat per jump. So in my experience the only thing the campaign added was randomly delivering me bad parts to combat swarms of enemies that always feel faster than me unless I tack on 4 more engines, my guns suck and I never find better ones and the main new gimmicks are easily handled by the second galaxy.

I see I'm not the only person lately feeling this way either. I'll have to go play creative and that sucks for me. I'm the kinda player that wants to have structure and campaign mode provides that but its so anti-fun I can't bear it. I have no suggestions how to fix it because my best idea is to scrap the rogue-lite aesthetic altogether in favor of a large open map that lets the player decide when to progress further into risky territory and I don't think that is an acceptable proposition given the work that went into campaign mode and how many people probably enjoy it.

I'm frustrated because I like the game but I feel like obstacles have been placed in my path to enjoying it and I don't see any feedback I can give that is helpful. :Owl_Trap:

The theory is that you take certain missions to get key components and buff yourself up. I agree that the random nature can really be frustrating, ESPECIALLY weapons that have negative effects making them useless. There are also other key items such as thrusters and batteries which can really hamper your gameplay if you get shafted there. Finally, any non-engineer is very limited if they fail to get any Logic packs on missions.

I would definitely be in favor of item packs that contain multiple items of a given type so that a lot more parts could be had to work with...expecially basic blocks and generic stuff.

I definitely feel this, I remember playing a while ago, the class system sucks and being limited to researcher in order to edit the pile of weapons you cant scrap or sell, let alone make them anymore takes a lot of the freedom from the game

It's abandonware, surprised anyone still has it installed.
