I also really didn't like how a single mistake with the zone 4 boss can force you to replay ten levels, but that's a design choice, not a bug.
- Mouse goes quirky.
After using Scroll of Earthquake, my mouse becomes unresponsive or moves to the wrong place. Keyboard direction-keys still work fine. Since I haven't gotten to the Wand of Freezing yet, I can't say it does the same thing too.
Solution: Esc, save & exit, quit game, start game: mouse is fine again.
- Cloack of Shadows.
Doesn't prevent Imps from exploding on death (but I think it should). Prevents Hell Hounds from attacking you. Prevents Ghosts from respawning. Prevents Son of Zreluhms from lifesteal.
Thought it was a bug when my character dimmed out, but - me stupid - it is not called a Cloack of Shadows for nothing, so you become shadowy (dimmed)...
-Ghost
A respawn at the same place is still a respawn. Allthough a very unfortunate respawn in this case. Doesn't respawn when you kill it in one shot.
- Fang of the Vampire (lifesteal amulet)
I thought to steal life from an Imp, but it took more life from me when it exploded, then I stole from it and so I died (again).
- A single mistake
Yes, it can screw up everything. Replaying ten levels is fortunate. Restarting all over again when not so lucky. That is what a Rogue-like game is all about. One mistake = (near) instant death.
It gets on your nerves, makes you angry, sad or stirs up emotions you didn't know you had.
Just put it away for a couple of weeks / months and try again (much) later.
This is definitely not a game you finish in one session. And I like it this way :)
After 50 hours of play I am still not at the Dragon Gloves. I must have died a 100 times or more. I now have 24 orbs from failed attempts, so I am finally able to buy stuff I cannot reach.
Hope it works out this time, but I won't be surprised to fail again.
Oh, and a great thanks to "sfnhltb" for a wonderful game guide.
Also not sure how you're having so much trouble with the game. 99.9% of playthroughs are winnable.
Yes, I seem to have made a mistake with the ghosts there. Although I wished the Cloack would act that way. It now only helps with the Hounds. Oh, and the proper name for the Dragon gloves is Dragon Slayer. But I have done enough re-editing...
Guess I am either too old, too dumb or too eager to win this game. But that doesn't matter. I learned a few things and had a lot of fun. Now I am stuck at killing Zhrelum a second time. I seem to always end up with not enough health (even with Fang equipped and over 8000 at the start). Must be something left to learn...
