Sid Meier's Civilization III: Complete

Sid Meier's Civilization III: Complete

If anyone is still having problems with the screen display in Windows 10...
I was able to play Civ III in a normal window without cutting off the right side or bottom and I didn't change any ini files or change my computer display settings to 640 x 480 - tho ultimately this is what happened within the game settings.

~I opened Browse Local Files
~Right clicked Civ III Conquests
~under Properties, checked the box toRun this Program in Compatibility Mode for Windows 8
~then in Settings, checked the box to Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution

I then opened the game normally and was able to play with no problem.
You will have to change your screen resolution after you're done back to whatever you had before (for me this was 1920 x 1080).

Again, I apologize if this answer has been previously shown, but I couldn't find this. And happily this worked for me. Hope it helps anyone else looking for an answer.

Everything worked fine until today. Now the game won't work as soon as I pick any game mode. I lunch it, starts loading, loading barbarians... and then it kicks me out from the game. Any suggestions?

I saw someone talk about this under another discussion. Check the post from er1023 on October 31, 2020 "Civilization 3 does not work with windows 10".
I tried to include the link for it, but I don't seem to be able to. Search for that exact title in the discussions and you will find it.
The last entry (#12) from Lucas (Emperor_Atlantis) suggested running as admin, ignore DPI scaling, using Windows 8 compatibility mode, etc. They note though that the barbarian bug seems to occur "ONLY when I turn on the option for culture linked starting positions."

Idk - I haven't come across this bug yet. But I hope maybe that thread might help you!

I don't find the box under properties that says "to Run this Program in Compatibility Mode for Windows 8". Any suggestions? Also my resolution options don't go that low in my computer settings.

Brainfart, I right clicked on Conquests instead of Civ3Conquests. So I changed the compatibility and screen resolution and I still don't see the full screen. Any other suggestions.

I found a solution that worked for me in the thread- Resolution problems.

I went to the civ 3 folder E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization III Complete\Conquests and found the Civ3Conquests.exe and right clicked on it. Then i selected properties. From there i went to compatibility settings and selected change high DPI settings. Towards the bottom there is a high scale dpi override option that lets you select system , system (enhanced) or , application. You want to select application then that fixes the scaling issue for me.
