Playing Civ3 started killing my internet connection
I dunno why this is happening, but every time I've been playing Civ3 on my desktop for the past few days my internet connection has either died so slowed down to be basically unusable. I'm not playing online, just against the AI, and I'm not running any mods or other modifications. This issue only occurs on my desktop, not my laptop, and so far only with Civ3, not any other game in my library.

Does anyone have any ideas?

The game is very CPU intensive. Doesn't really use the GPU and it is not optimized for modern PCs. Your PC still needs to be able to process the data it is receiving from your network card/wifi card, and that all goes through the CPU. If you open the task manager while the game is running and you are using your browser or whatever internet app, I would bet that you would see them fighting over the CPU.
