To switch ship use a hanger!! It will spawn you into new ship!! That is you put the ship in the slot!! You can even have a few ships for specaility missions!!

So just go to a hanger and the ship you have pokeball for in the ship slot will appear!!

You can only unequip your packed ship if it has no cargo. You can empty it by accessing the ships inventory in one of the shops of your homestation.

Hey, turns out you have to hold down the "Shift" key while you click on the Icon to unequip it. don't know why you can't just click it like normal but oh well. Also, cheers for the advice guys.

You can also just right click the new ship you want to slot in and it switches out the active one if you are in your "E" inventory.

Empty cargo bays before trying to swap ships. Having cargo in the ship bays will lock your current ship in place.

Turns out the only way top do it is to hold down the shift key and click. the right click function simply does not work. it might work for you but not me. Also, just letting people know, if you pack a ship that has cargo in it, that cargo spills out into space and you will have to use either the "z" "x" or "C" key from memory to suck up it's cargo. Just make sure you get the packed ship if you run out of inventory space while doing it. Also, get one of those powered armour things with the thrusters on it, makes getting into ships so much more easy
