display mode problems
16:10 fullscreen
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1995399379
in fullscreen mode, graphic gets stretched

16:10 borderless
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1995399445
in borderless mode, the ratio stays what it should be, but it doesn't have black border bars to cover the desktop, you will accidentally click off the game screen, and you can't alt-tab, the game is locked in foreground

16:10 windowed
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1995400831
in windowed mode, the game is locked in foreground, you can't alt-tab

the foreground force-locked is really terrible and the display bug is really giving me a hard time,
I really want to like the game, but this bug seem never get fixed.

after years of waiting, I may have to give up upon it...

What display bug? You don't have 16:10 display, when you apply it in full screen, yes you get stretched image because it is 1600x1000 and that's different aspect ration than your display have. Borderless and windowed mode are both window mode.

Resolution of your display is 1600 x 1280, not 1600 x 1000. This is not bug, game is giving you what you are setting up. Set 1600 x 1280 go full screen, you will be fine. Set 1600 x 1280 go borderless, you will be fine.

I'm not sure why you say that, in most circumstances and my personal experience in games , when you do that, to run a 16:9 resolution on a 5:4 or 16:10 monitor, you get black strips on top and bottom, and the image should stay its ratio as you specified.

surely there won't be any black strips in windowed mode, but it should have black strips in borderless and full screen mode.

and what is it with this foreground-locking thing in borderless and windowed mode? I just don't understand? what is the point for borderless and windowed mode when you can't switch to another program?

as you can see in my taskbar(the 3rd pic) there are multiple programs running , I tried to switch to the explorer but it didn't go to foreground.

this is just odd to me...

Black strips in game are caused by GUI or rendering being unable to scale to requested resolution, that is unwanted effect, in modern games it is mostly common for console ports as games where designed for specific aspect ration. This game can scale to arbitrary resolution, you don't have to limit yourself. Use resolution and aspect ratio supported by your monitor. You don't specify ratio, you specify resolution and this game can provide for any resolution, no need to limit itself or fill with black, empty borders.

You should be able to alt tab without issues, I do that all the time, when I am developing, or streaming and so on. If you are not able to do it, then it has something to do with system settings.

I had to,
because the UI elements got cut off screen,
like a ship with multiple largest cargo storage, you can't even pick them, the cargoes in the storage slots are way off screen

or in the ship design interface, they get overlap each other

Cargo storages cut of are definitely an issue, it's in some ancient GUI, I will tell George to take look at it.

If you tell me what overlaps on 1600 pixel width (it is not given by aspect ration but by horizontal resolution) then I will fix it right away https://imgur.com/a/9mVQR9Q I wasn't able to find element on design screen that would overlap at 1600 horizontal. However there is something that overlaps at 1280 which is technically lowest supporter resolution, so that aint optimal.

If you tell me on what version of Windows (exact build, I can see it's Windows 10) you are running I can try to do some research and find out why Alt Tab doesn't work for you (I literally wouldn't be able to develop without it).

I think it's all sorted, it magically fixes itself, I don't know why though,
and I might just buy a new 16:9 monitor to saves some trouble...

thx for the help

I noticed something like this though
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1995697495
the menu gui is off-center?
