I managed to kill the crew of a ship. I don't know the name of the ship, but it is the one with a repair bay and two cargo bays on the left side and two small turrets on the right.

I docked with the ship and used it's repair bay to repair both ships. I then went back to my ship for grey goo to make a packeyball. When I go back to my new prize and try to use the packeyball it says I can't use a packeyball on a ship spawned from inventory. I look at my inventory and see that I don't have any spots on my person for it. Maybe it doesn't like that. So I clear a couple spots in my personal inventory and try again. Same message.

I was able to use a packeyball on my current ship when I "acquired" it from pirates. I don't know why this one won't let me.

Info that may or may not be related:
The ship was guarding a asteroid cluster with an alien station in it.
On my way out of the area a couple of small fighters spawned in around me, after the ship I am trying to capture was disabled, but before I attempted to repair/capture it.
This is early game (1-2 hours in) with a fresh profile in a newly made world for the overhaul update.
