Just built a Settler. Can't fly it anywhere, and the game refuses to tell me how.
I click on the ship and none of the action prompts show up

You need to select the ship and click to CREATE a fleet before you can do anything with it. The button is in the middle lower window when you click the ships in the solar system, if I recall right.
This really confused me as well, made the same mistake a number of times.

Full Disclosure: I am completely fresh as this game is concerned, and as such I'm finding basic stuff about the game to be almost incomprehensible. As far as 4x I usually play Civ IV or Master of Orion.

I guess I explained it wrong. It keeps saying that I can't do anything inside the hangar, but I can't tell how to take the ship out of it.

Make sure the ship is highlighted in the right-hand pane (click it a few times to see the difference), then click the little "Ship" in the bar above it (looks a lot like an arrow pointing up at a diagonal, as well). All highlighted ships (up to your max fleet cap at that time) will be sent into orbit at that system. Shift-click and Control-click operate exactly as you might expect ("select all up to this point, from the last click" and "toggle this item", respectively).

Next probable sticking point: If a given hyperlane is too long for you to be able to detect a system on the other side, a likely occurrence at the start of the game, right-click the hyperlane itself to travel along it. If you can see the destination system, however, you can simply right-click that system.

By the way, "Disband" merely sends all selected ships/fleets to the hangar at a given location as individual ships, removing all fleet associations, it does not actually dismantle units. For that, you'll want the little "skull" icon =). Remember, however, that since ships gain experience, upgrading instead of dismantling is often a better idea.

*Very useful, topical hint* While waypoints don't exist in ES2 as such, you can force a ship to travel directly from point A to point B — assuming you have off-starlane travel, that is ^^' — by holding down the Control key while right-clicking. Overriding the normal pathing algorithm like this is useful for surprise attacks, avoiding enemy chokepoints, protecting vulnerable ships (NOTHING can harm a fleet while traveling), and several other shenanigans.

I play games for 20 years but i have trouble figuring out how to colonise. Tutorial simple select ship send to planet. BUT WHY IT HAVE TO BE SO COMPLICATED?!
Akuaki 26 May, 2019 @ 6:59pm
how to kick settler in but so it move plenty ships in ship yard GRRRR
and they expect ppl to pay £50 for game
Bozobub 26 May, 2019 @ 7:27pm
Um... Select your colony ship, have it move to a system with a colonizable planet, preferably with 4 or 5 planets, overall (there should be a good one VERY near to any start), and click the little symbol over the colonizable planet you want to colonize. The Umbral Choir is different, however, and needs an *empty* node that has no planets for its home system.

If you MUST hijack other folks' threads, would you mind being (much) clearer? At least chew fewer marbles while you fume -.-' ...
