What issues do you have?
Do you have the workshop version of the game enabled?

Try to verify the integrity of the game files also. If it doesn't help, reinstall the game with deleting the game folder and uninstalling the game in Steam,

Trying to start a new game and it just sends me back to windows and then a box appears "access violation".. any suggestions? Have tried the community mods etc...nothing...

If you have the workshop enabled and installed the union mod then I would try disabling e-cores in the bios. That gave me some success. My best success was using proton under arch linux. I used a custom proton GE. Version 9-22. I downloaded it to Steam with protonup-qt. After a clean install on the local C drive I've had no crashes or access violation. Windows 11 has been hit and miss for me. I believe it's due to the enhanced modern security and some older games. You may have to go into the security settings and make the gothic 2 installation folder exempt. Otherwise it may be seen as a virus or malicious activity. I've noticed that it flags qbittorent torrent application as a severe virus now even though it's not.

I had a resolution problem, game starts when you don´t mess with the resolution but the graphics flicker and the character is invisible..but have to keep solving :)
