Conquest of Elysium 4

Conquest of Elysium 4

Want to continue a Lavaborn class mod I started?
Some time ago I started a mod to introduce a class based on EA-MA Abysia from Dominions.

I converted some sprites, made some stats (Lavaborn got basic fire shield, as heat aura isn't a thing in CoE) and transformation spells for mages.

At some point I realized I had too many other projects going on, wasn't THAT much interested in putting the time & effort on this, and there were some mechanical limits on modding I disliked - mostly being unable to make new combat schools, and being unable to only allow the nation to collect *some* kinds of gems (I wanted the nation to be able to use rubies & emeralds but not sapphires & diamonds)

But I don't want to waste the little I have done, so I'm asking - would someone want to continue this project?

Just don't expect too much, I did say I did relatively little, but if you are interested in a project like this it can save you a bit of time.

I can also share what my plans for the class (units, mages, rituals) were though I don't really care if people wish for the mod to go in a completely different direction.

UPDATE: Download link, do what you want it, if you eventually release a mod using this as a base I appreciate being credited but it's not mandatory

Yeah, I was wondering if it was a mistake on your side or an issue with the forum software. No prob :)

After I finish up my Terraria mod, I was thinking of modding in stuff from DOM into COE4 as well. I don't know when I would get around to it, but I don't mind taking a shot at it, since the more sprites one has, the easier modding is.

Nice to have found a volounteer so soon!
The sprites are just the ones from the dump with adapted backgrounds + shadows, so they work fine, I don't remember creating new ones.

The plan was:

- use EA Abysia as a base, adding MA stuff as needed

- mages would be Anathemant Newt/Salamander/Anointed of Rhuax and Apprentice Warlock/Warlock (only two tiers here, and maybe should have a different name to avoid confusion with the Warlock class)
Upgrading from Salamander to Anointed might require a Volcano, or maybe just MUCH cheaper in one. However the class gets a starting volcano close to their citadel, which means it's only likely to be a problem is the mage is away from home.

- nation collects gems and sacrifices. Ruby and sapphires act as fire and earth gems, diamonds & sapphire would likely be unused (which is why wish you could make them unable to get them)

- warlock summons would have included some generic devils, misbred & demonbred. smoulderghosts too (they are Death summons in Dominions, but it can work here and there isn't a clear equivalent to death gems unless we give them hands of glory and I'd rather not). fire would have gotten stuff similar to what warlocks get, plus children of rhuax & maybe fire drakes

- regular recruits would be Lavaborn infantry (of various types) requiring gold and iron, and humanbred costing only gold and less iron (or no iron at all, maybe)

- special troops you can recruit rarely would could include fire drakes (despite also being a summonl), Burning Ones (not sacred), misbred. Dom Abysia gets salamanders, but these are significantly different in CoE

- siege weapon could be a 'magma catapult' costing more than a regular one, but doing extra fire damage

Feel free to use or ignore these ideas as you prefer.

Download link is in the OP now.

As for your plans to port other Dom stuff to Coe, I suggest you focus on the nations that don't have clear equivalents (feels redundant to me port Marverni Sauromatia & EA Ulm when the barbarian class effectively models them already)

Well, one of my ideas was to mix in certain stuff in the base games to classes that work with them well. Either flavor them as mercs or outlying groups. The Bone Tribe, being death mages, would be mercs for the Necro.

So only really unique stuff like C'tis would get their own class, and everything else with something similar to them already in COE4 would just get added on as a buff to that class (Voice of El getting renamed Mag Royal Guards or something for example).

It should be noted that the Pale Ones use diamonds for their variety of necromancy, where they summon things like Umbrals and Shard Wights. One could do the same with a Lavaborn faction, I think.

I'm at a loss as far as sapphires go, though. Some form of scrying ritual, maybe?

Well, if nothing else they can be traded away for extra gold.

Right, someone brought up that reasoning to me (I suspect it was yourself, actually) so smoulderghosts could have used diamonds, but I didn't like the idea too much, though I did consider it, trying to connect diamonds to fire through coal.

Sapphires are indeed weird as they are associated with water.

I do hope at some point modding support is added for only being able to gather some types of gems, even if I won't use it!

Probably. It does ring a bell.

If you repost the link so I can download it I would fold it into Populum at some point.

Thanks, I was looking through old threads and noticed it by chance. I've had an expansion based on Abysia on my populum to-do list for awhile now.
