How do I modify the background?

Hey all so my graphics card died recently so I need to lower the graphical quality further than the menu options let me. The game runs fine in battles but the animated coloured background kills my framerate. Does anyone know how to disable it?

I really don’t think there is a way to disable the swaying of trees or the smoke from farm house chimneys and brigand camp fires, I’m afraid. I also can’t think of a command line option to do much more than you can do in the the Preferences menu. (Presumably, turning the opacity for boxes up to 100% could reduce graphics processing slightly?)

Full opacity didn't make enough of a difference, it's still a slideshow on the map screen. Oh well i'll just wait until i can afford a new card, thanks for your help though.
