Saintly Order Mod
Download[www.dropbox.com]

This is my little Saintly Order mod for CoE3[www.desura.com] now adapted for CoE4.

As before, it only deals with appearances and names (within the Voice of El faction), doesn't mess at all with how the game plays.

What it does:
  • Replaces the single seemingly androgynous saint of El in the game (female-looking but with male names) with two saint types, one male, one female – each with names matching its appearance. (All other properties unchanged.) The chance of each should be 50% any time a saint comes into play.

Also, whereas the original saint looks disturbingly similar to a High Priestess of Baal (minus only the red sash of the priestess), the saints are now dressed in white, like the flagellants they are leading.

  • Gives each of the three paladin versions its own sprites. (They are indistinguishable in the unmodded game.) Like with my CoE3 mod, the higher level paladins can be distinguished through larger golden emblems on their shields in my mod. Now, however, updated to their new CoE4 appearance – riding on the white horses with golden manes and tails they got in CoE4.
The one further thing that my CoE3 mod did was to also change mundane names of angels into angelic ones. This, however, has evidently been corrected in CoE4, so doesn't need to be modded anymore.

Edit:

Now updated with the wonderful modprio command of v4.20. Modprio is 8, i.e. almost but not quite at max. (Just in case anybody for whatever reason would want a mod to be loaded after mine.)

This means those who want to mod the saint unit type can do so without fear of any clashes with this mod. If you don't use any explicit modprio command it will default to 5, making your mod always be loaded before mine. Thus your changes to saints will be effected before my mod splits the saint unit type in two (male and female).

As a stopgap solution I previously made a version with player-controlled saints. Even if probably not needed anymore, I decided to keep it available anyway, also updated with a modprio of 8.[www.dropbox.com] Note that the standard version of my mod is included in that package! If you don’t need the player-controlled version, you can just download the standard version alone via the link above.

Well, I said that I would update the mod once you could insert hard line breaks in text. That part has been fixed for quite a while now. So I finally got around to do what I said I would, and provide the mod with the description text I wanted it to have.

I even did the same for the other two small CoE4 mods I have published:The Bystanders also got a unit description.

All in all perhaps so minor changes that you may question whether it’s even worth the effort to download and “reinstall” them (just have the new versions overwrite the old ones). The readability of the messages given by the What Era? mod will be a bit improved, I believe though, with the new “paragraph breaks”.

It only now came to my attention that my Saintly Order mod the way I last uploaded it, March 30, was corrupted. (A decidely unwanted clearmove command had somehow found its nasty way into it.) I honestly don’t quite understand how it could have happened, but perhaps I did something stupid while I was performing various tests. 😳

My deepest apologies to those who downloaded that version.

The mod has been corrected and the download link has been updated.

Saintly order > I wish to create an the Angelic Voice of Reason type or similar mod, or may I have permission to use elements of this in it?
Thanks

I like your What Era mod., The c4m code I changed a bit adding a line about employed sages who give the report rather than the "omniscient narrator" to make it a bit more immersive ,

We are in the fifth era, the Monarchy era. ◀^^You consult with sages employed to investigate Elysium. The sages submit their report:^^From the ruins of the fallen empire,

Um, my Saintly Order mod is hardly related at all to the Angelic Voice of Reason one, is it? 😕
In fact, I kind of made it a point not to mess with the stupidity of saints (or angels) the way they were designed in the standard game. (I don’t like the idea of player-controlled saints and angels much.)

So, normally, I would have said, make whatever stupidity-removing mod you like and then, if players want my changes to sprites and names as well, let them play with both mods.

However...

...depending on the order in which the game loads the mods, Saintly Order may not always combine well with another saint-changing mod. (If my mod is loaded after the other, no problems; otherwise, the other mod will change only my male saint but leave my female one based on the standard saint of the game.)

It really would have been nice if a loading priority could have been set for CoE mods. 😞

In the absence of that, though...

...for those who want to combine my mod with something like the Angelic Voice of Reason one, or just are control freaks in general 😜 and want to control saints,
I now added a player-controlled version of my Saintly Order!
See the top post.

THANKS! The Angelic Voice of Reason now LIVE for c04!!!

>> Saintly Order may not always combine well with another saint-changing mod<<

Yes If I wish to buff the celestials and leave them AI controled, and release a mod to avoid issues with two mods changing the same thing, may I have permission to incorportate Saintly Order in it?
Thanks
Marlin 23 Jun, 2016 @ 5:35pm
But what buffs (other than removal of their “stupid” trait, which is now covered by my player-control version) would you possibly want give the saints? I now checked Carn’s Balance mod for CoE3[coe3.proboards.com], and although I believe he modded every angel (and the celestial lion), he didn’t touch the saints.

Also, what if players like your celestial buff mod, but are less happy about my changes to the aesthetics? I am flattered, of course, that you apparently are one who appreciates it. I’m just bewildered by this sudden urge of yours – after nobody else, other than myself, bothered to post in this thread at all for 6 months – to grab my stuff and cram it into what to me seems to be an entirely unrelated mod.

I kind of like the idea of keeping separate things in separate mods. Plus:

But in order for this to work, you’d have to discourage from use of my mod, right? (“Stay away from Marlin’s mod.”) Which I’m not sure I would feel OK with. I mean, I am still here! It’s not like I abandoned this mod.

Remember: Things may work flawlessly already without any adaption at all to either this or another saint-changing mod – provided they are loaded in the right order (my mod last). If, on the other hand, you incorporate my mod in yours, and an unsuspecting player is using both, things are bound to end up less than optimal.

So, for now, the solution I’d prefer myself is if could I remain the one maintaining the Saintly Order stuff, adapting it to other mods as needed.
SteahmChip 23 Jun, 2016 @ 8:07pm
Saints in their description have the ability to inspire, so something along the lines of more help coming when they are in trouble, enough to aid in the defeat of the random wilderness riff-raff, but not not strong enough to challenge a deliberate army. Celestials still would be AI controlled.

If you wanted to do it , go right ahead, I have a working version already been testing it sucessfuly it in my personal game, just have to strip out the Saintly Order Code for the male / female Saint naming convention and the references to the icons used.

I gather if someone would want to use both mods together, you would make the compatibiltiy file?
Marlin 24 Jun, 2016 @ 5:21am
So, to retrace this conversation, when you made your first post, I am now assuming you weren’t talking of some hypothetical future project you were planning. I am guessing you had at that point already made your mod, discovered some compatibility problems with my Saintly Order mod on your machine, and, rather than to just turn my mod off, had grabbed its contents and incorporated it in yours?

Had you filled me in on the details from the start, it could have saved me some considerable confusion, you know. 😉

But to answer your question:

Sure! Just post your mod (sans my Saintly Order), and I can do that. 😎

Hopefully 😇, Johan will add some way to set a loading priority for mods, at which point this won’t be a problem anymore. But, in the meanwhile, I’ll make a fix.
SteahmChip 27 Jul, 2016 @ 6:42pm
I have to get back to you on this Marlin , and yes, we now know your stance on this so no post wasted!!

Already stripped out your code and I have to test more thoroughly , I shall edit this post as needed...

...And he did! Thank you, Johan! 😁

So, I have now updated my mod with the new modprio command of v4.20. See the top post.
I set the modprio to 8, i.e. not quite at max, just in case anyone for whatever reason (that I can't think of now) would want their mod to be loaded after mine it's still possible (with a modprio of 9).

Great!

When you feel you're done, just go ahead and upload your mod. No need to worry about any explicit modprio in your mod (the default is 5). There should be no clash between our mods anymore, and users should be able to comfortably pick and choose between your mod or mine or both (or neither) without problems.

Could someone repost the link spaced out so it won't get scrubbed?
Here's a re-upload:

[removed]

Edit: Google broke my link, and it isn't needed anymore, anyway.
