Conquest of Elysium 4

Bystander Mod
Download[www.dropbox.com]

This very simple mod just adds a faction intended for an AI player only, the purpose of which it is to stay in the game (preventing it from ending) without actually doing anything.

That is...
  1. Download and enable the mod.
  2. Start a new game, and play with only one AI opponent.
  3. Select the new class Bystander for this opponent.
  4. You can now play the game entirely as a player versus environment game, without worrying about other players at all.
No game rules are changed, there is no cheating involved. Each class will play the way it's defined in the standard game.

Inspired by a similar mod for CoE3 by Kiapha on Desura[www.desura.com].

Edit: Changed link from MediaFire to Dropbox, since Steam now blocks MediaFire.

Fantastic.

I can envision this being quite useful for exploration games. I'll definitely give it a whirl and see how it goes.

I updated the link with a very small update, merely accommodating to changes in how the commands for resistance to fire, cold, shock and poison work with the most recent game patches. (These changes caused my bystanders to lose the immunities to these damage types I had given them.)

I would assume the bystanders to be pretty hard to defeat even without those immunities. But better safe than sorry.

I have to ask for help with a silly question-
How exactly do I activate this mod?
I have found the mod directory and copied the files into there, but still the game says that it cannot find mods.
Sorry about that, I am pretty much a computer illiterate.

BUT- I am absolutely amazed by the game (one of the best I played in a while!) and think this mod would be awesome!

  1. The downloaded file is a ZIP file, which needs to be unpacked. (I’m on Linux now, but as I recall it works basically the same in Windows: Either right click or double click on the ZIP file.)

  2. It contains a text file with the name ending ".c4m" as well as a folder called "bystander" (with some images for the mod). Both the c4m file and the folder should be in your mods directory.

  3. Now start the game, and enter the Mods menu. The Bystander mod should be there. Click on it to activate it. (It’s banner will appear to the right of your screen.)

Awesome, thank you very much! It is working now! I somehow had forgotten to copy the .c4m file into the mod folder. :-)

Thanks for making this! This is really handy for playing planar exploration games.

Can we get an updated link? I can't seem to find Bystander anywhere.
Steam's filters seem to have gotten a bit overzealous with all the link removals lately. Here's a re-up:

Also, @ Marlin: I just realized I never actually thanked you for this. For me, it's the single most indispensable mod for CoE4--thank you for making it!

Edit: Google broke my link, and it isn't needed anymore, anyway.

Thanks, Colonel Dracula joins the Navy, for the kind words, and also for helping, here and elsewhere, with links to my stuff.

Since Steam seems now indeed to be systematically blocking any and all links to MediaFire, I have now copied all the stuff I had there to Dropbox, and updated links accordingly. Or at least that has been my intention. Hope I haven’t forgotten anything, and that Steam doesn’t suddenly decide to block Dropbox as well.

Links now updated are in the following threads:

Thanks for the Bystander mod, it's really useful to take time to explore the whole map, including other planes.

This has some conflicts with this mod:

A summon in that one, the "primordial artificer" summons monsters per turn, but instead of whatever he's supposed to summon, he summons three bystanders a turn.
