Vertical farm, with floor upon floor of greenhouses.
Chemical plant, with huge vats of toxic sludge and/or molten rock.
Smartphone assembly sweatshop, with safetly nets outside the upper windows.
Which also reminds me of supposedly recreating a certain UNESCO Heritage-tagged Silk Farm.
I also thought of a vehicle assembly plant, but since the actual vehicles aren't voxelised, it may be difficult to make that look like it's producing them.
Another option could be facilities for assembling white goods - washing machines, ovens, refrigerators, etc.
Thanks for the suggestions. A desalination plant would make a fine addition to the game, except I'd have to set it up to require being near water, in order to make sense, which would mean that it would never pop up automaticaly. I don't even think a dam would be possible, not just becouse it would have to be on a much bigger lot, but becouse unfortunitally, there's now way to place a building on a body of wather in this game, without deleting the water.
You can use the WATER_NEAR special effect. Check the Sawmill building in vanilla.txt, and replace HILLS_NEAR with WATER_NEAR
Note: buildings with special effects do not spawn naturally (in city gen or by zones).
Storage units would be an easy build.
