Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.2 Watanagashi

Length of chapters?
While Onikakushi took about 4 hours to complete, this took 10.

Are all the chapters past the first about the same length, or is Watanagashi one of the longer chapters?

The chapters are progressively longer, with the exception of arc 4, Himatsubushi-hen (depending on translation is either) [Time killing arc/Wasted time arc]. I consider that arc to be the shortest.

Onikakushi actually took me 10 hours to finish

It took me around 8 hours to complete the first one. I've racked up 8 hours in the second one, and I've only completed chapter 6. That's right before the festival, so I haven't even got to the good parts yet. :worriedgrim::onibat::grimmonster:

Onikakushi took you FOUR hours? Come again? I'm pretty sure the two first arcs are more or less around the same length, and Onikakushi is clearly more 10 hours long than 4 hours.

Yes. I read really fast. Just checked my game activity. Steam says it took 5.8 hours, but at least 1 hour of that was messing around with files after I completed the game. So more like 5 hours for me to 100%. You can check if you want.

Only if you're a slow or average reader. I read Onikakushi in ~4 or 5 hours as well.

Took me less than 10 hours for Onikakushi. I used the voice patch and didn't skip to listen to their lines. With Watanagashi, it took me more than 16 hours. (The whole patch has not been finished yet)

That's a good way to measure it, since reading speed seems to differ greatly. Most people should be able to read faster that the voicess speak, so those numbers are a sort of "upper limit".

with or without sound patch? congrats, you're one of those people who kept subvocalize reading to a minimum

I read both at around the same speed and got 7.x hours for both of them. I'm not sure how you guys are getting such a huge disparity between the two chapters

It just depends how fast you read. A second less on each line adds up.

What a necrobump lol. Could've at least waited a month so it would've been 5 years.

Anyway, it's likely the discrepancy in my playtimes came from the quantity of slice-of-life scenes per arc. I was already familiar with the series before playing the vn, so found I just skimmed through those.
