How to host/join a Multiplayer game
PLEASE NOTE: There is currently an issue joining Friends Only games and using Steam invites. We're working on this!

To host your own game:
  1. While in the game you want people to join, hit [O] to open the Online tab and then click “Open Game to Multiplayer”.
  2. Set your game options and hit start.
    • Name your server whatever you like. Maybe tell people what kind of game it is, or that you're having a doughnut party at the waterfall. Up to you.
    • 4 max players is best. We don't advise going above 8.
    • If you don't want strangers to be able to join your game, choose Friends Only or Invite Only. Friends will be able to see your game in the Join Game list. To invite, use the Steam invite interface.
    • The Host Tether option means all players have to stay near the host. This is helpful if you're having connection and performance issues when players move further away from each other.
  3. Wait for people to join your game!
TIP: To see a list of players connected to your game, press [O] again. This will also give you the option to invite the other players to your party so your creatures are friendly and you can't damage each other. You can also "kick" players from your game on this screen if needed.

To join someone else's game:
  • Hit “Join Game” on the main menu to see publicly available servers. If there are any listed there, you can select one and hit the "Join Game" button to jump in. You can also use the Distance Filter at the top to expand your search if you can't find anything nearby. Just please be aware that you may experience higher latency (lag) if you join a server that's farther away from you!

To chat:
  • Tap the ENTER key to bring up the chatbox. Type your message and press ENTER again to send.

Notes:
  • This is an early version of multiplayer and there may be bugs or issues.
That's why we need testers like you! Please report anything you find by posting them on the forums and we'll investigate. It really helps us out. Thank you!
  • Anyone visiting your game can make changes.
They can edit your creatures, modify your structures, collect resources and Life Shapers, etc. If you have a saved game that you'd like to keep as-is, we suggest backing it up or starting a new profile before opening up to multiplayer and allowing other players in.
