Blunt vs Sharp
Is it just me or do sharp weapons feel wildly more powerful than blunt weapons?
Even in raw damage, sharp weapons just outclass blunt (Tech Sceptre does 18 damage, but the Thunder Spear does 26... tf?)
The skill tree is also significantly worse: Blunt gets only 2 skills (power attack... and then the power attack taking 50% less stamina...) while Sharp has literally double the amount, all of which doing something unique to eachother and some serving some utility purpose (being able to throw sharp weapons, making it less likely to get bioscrap from gutting, enemies dying from bleeding and not being knocked down and even making it more likely to cause severe bleeding)

They do different effects. As some things take more damage to blunt vs sharp. Blunt I think also attacks faster then sharp.

In general, sharp is better, but with blunt each weapon is essentially a heavy weapon and a fast weapon mixed into one

With blunt you can hit multiple enemies, but for me the dmg & range of sharp outweighs this by a large margin.

You also risk getting messy with sharp weapons due to blood splattering.

That said, Blunt has been surprising useful. The Power Attack option does wonders. in my 150+ hour save, My sharp Melee skill is still like a 1 or 2.

It doesn't really help that a large amount of enemies later in the game straight up have blunt damage resistance but weakness to sharp like order soldiers, which imo should be the opposite

go with blunt
Sharp weapons are weaker, have less variety, & cause blood splater wich gives you the dirty debuff
Also sharp weapons are worse at breaking objects.

I have BEEN using blunt for my entire playthrough
its as soon as i tried out sharp that everything started dying 3x as fast and efficiently

That sounds about right. In the demo (which only let you play up to the end of Flathill) I used the makeshift spear a lot, and decided to go with just Blunt weapons on this EA version to change things up. To my surprise, blunt weapons were still quite viable, even against blunt resistant soldiers.

I mean it could be both, depends where you smack the enemy with it, if your smacking it with the point? yeah that would be sharp, if you smack them with the back of it? blunt. Kinda why the pickaxe is sharp as well. I've never seen that dirty debuff do anything other than have an annoying looking icon. Never been sick on my char, but then again I never been in a winter biome yet, and I am sure the game has one or will have one eventually if it doesn't already.

yeah well, game decided to make it a sharp weapon only
also sickness doesnt really do all to much - it just makes you throw up occasionally for a duration (every time you throw up you lose some hunger and thirst... which is okay i guess)

Blunt weapons power attack is pretty strong for example with a impact hammer without sneaking a power attack can kill a soldier in 1 hit as opposed to 3 hits when aiming for headshot only.

In terms of sharp vs blunt skills sharps skills are more utility, while blunt skills are more damage.

As for the speed difference has more to do with weapon types ie. 1h > spear > 2h
while the tech hammer is lower damage then thunder spear it has a slightly faster attack speed and the ability to power attack if your not using a shield which could out damage the thunder spear.

Just finished my gameplay, blunts are still completly underpowered greatly compared to sharp. There is like not even window for a conversation there. Heavy and Blunt weapons need major reworks.
