Extremely Tiny UI And Font

so i'm playing on a 4k display and the UI and font is insanely tiny, is there any way to scale it up? tried to change screen scale in options > Display but no matter what number i enter the game always instantly crash.

What system are you playing on?

There is also a setting for selecting a font, and you can change the font size (if it is a .ttf font), or you can select one of the larger Terminus .bdf fonts I have included in the Steam release.
