Does not prevent you from adding it. You abstract the interface to Steam and keep the actual implementation closed source. That way you circumvent the NDA since no Steam Code is in the Open Source part.

You forget that a many Poeple take the Dissicon if someone put it somewere to Download. is on CC licencs

Achievements are a possibility at some point in the future, but achievements would need to be managed by an external program that gets called by Simutrans to keep within the license.

Yes, you could call a DLL (closed source) via LoadLibrary which provides an abstract interface, this way you don't taint your open source code with a closed source program, provided you are using C or C++. However, dynamic calls like this are still kind of a arguing point in the OSS Community, as I am sure you know. But I know some other OSS Games that do exactly that.

Having the abstract public seems not to violate the Steam NDA, see GameMaker's Documentation with calls to the Steam API.

I hope it happens eventually! But the lack of achievements is not going to stop me from enjoying the game! Exams however will for now :-/

Achievements would be really great, but I don´t think this game want get them...
