No sound

I'm getting no sound in the game, the music can not be enabled, the sound effects can be muted and enabled, but it does not make sound in any state, and when I try to change the music that is "playing" I get a message inside the game saying "Invalid MIDI index!".

OS: Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS 64 bits
Sound card: HDA Intel PCH

Me too, Manjaro has the same problem

musik is only aviable when sound effects are on. and only after restart the sound settings are valid. at least in my case

With Simutrans 123 and the new music backend, music should be working now out of the box. You will need Ubuntu 20.04 or greater.
