Anyways there are some "outs" so to speak - you can get Aster+2 and Morality Sword+1 from the cannons on the upper areas of Abyss, and in Phantasmagoria you can get Morality Sword+1, Vorpal Sword+2, Umage+1 and Schera's unspellable whip+1 rather easily. This still leaves fun things like Merciless Rocket, Zin's weapon, and Stella Machinas though :( I dunno why but they seem really reluctant to transform into certain characters.
From what I figured out, certain spawns can only transform into certain characters. Try a different level in abyss. I saw Zin, Kloe, Joshua, Estelle, Renne, Anelace, Richard, Josette spawn from them on one floor, and another floor would spawn Kevin, Agate, Mueller, Tita, Julia, Reis, Schera, Oliver. So any single spawn on any given location can only transform into 1/2 the lineup.
I also noticed that certain "pairs" of characters would spawn together, whereas they'd never pair in some combinations. I've seen Zin + Josette, Estelle + Joshua, Renne + Anelace, Kloe + Richard. Never seen those characters spawn in pairs with anyone else. For example, if you're looking for Josette, and Estelle spawns first, you can retreat, but if Zin spawns first, you can wait around 1 more turn to see if Josette spawns, etc.
There is also something screwy going on with the RNG in this game. I ran into 20 pairs in a row of Anelace x2, and I had to reset the game to make it stop spawning Anelace. This should be near a statistical impossibility, if it's *truly* random. Assuming the odds are 1 in 8 of spawning a character, so you'd need to calculate the odds of 1 in 8 repeating itself 20 times, and that's just for 1 character. Depending on who spawns, the other character is a 50/50 of being the same character or 1 specific other character. Seems like 1 in 10000s odds of this repeating 20x in a row, but it's happened, and I've seen lots of other "streaks" where I'm getting repeats. The odds of that happening are so low, that it's more likely the RNG in this game got glitched out temporarily somehow.
Something else that points to the RNG being screwy. When I was farming poltergeists, I was getting armor drops by like a 10:1 ratio over boots, the other day. Heavily weighted towards Knight Armors dropping over other armors at like 5:1 ratio. I went back at a later date and I was getting nothing but boot drops, and only Knight Sabatons were dropping. Like I literally got around 18 knight sabatons before I saw another type of boot drop. I don't see how this should be even remotely possible.
2. The weapons are UNNECESSARY even on Nightmare mode. The weapons you get in the final dungeon are more than enough. These weapons are more of a bragging rights thing than anything. For example, I have finally gotten my "Stella Machina" and it took ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ forever.
3. IF you want to increase your "item drop rates", then equip "Divine Eye", "Luck", "Phantom Thief's Cape" and have Josette as your support. You can stack Divine Eye and Luck if you have more of them. Mind you, you only get one Divine Eye per run. Keep in mind, this will only increase the item drop rate and not the item you want. That is still purely luck based.
4. The only good steal in the entire game is Gold Gem from the giant spider in Abyss. That is only because that enemy has nothing but Gem Tier Quartz for its drops. Honestly, if you are going to grind any enemy, just do that one since Gem Tier Quartz are nice. Not that grinding sepith is really hard in this game as it just gives you thousands of them.
