Anyways, I'm past this now, but will leave this here in case it's a legit bug.
If it is the latter, then it is because Orbal Gear takes up more space than a normal character, hence moving around is not always possible. Usually not an issue since this is like the only fight in the game where the platforms disappear but it can happen. Also, the machine guns and rocket launcher attacks have really long range, so you can just use those.
If it is the beginning of the fight....then I don't know. First time hearing this, might try it out myself but when I bring Tita, this doesn't happen to me.
Fun trivia, you can take advantage of bosses having big hitboxes. For example the Rhinos. There is a boss in one of the future games, and I literally killed 3 of my characters around his body and he couldn't move. After that I just used long range attacks :D
Can also use this to trivialize Fango and Bronco at the end of Bose in FC, which is otherwise a VERY nasty fight on high difficulty. Let two people die near a corner and the third hides in it.
Yep. I always use that tactic. Especially, on Nightmare.
