Help for a newbie?
Ok, I get that this game is like a metroidvania/2d bloodborne, I am starting to understand how to be effective in combat and what my goals are, but I still don't know how to level up.

I had a massive surplus of the blood souls whatever stuff and ended up just spending it all on health so I could stop having to go back and retrieve it when I died. Am I missing something, or do I find a way to upgrade weapons and abilities later?

Is increasing max health the way you "level" in this game? Also, what is the deal with the blessing guy? I spent a bunch of the blood for his most expensive blessing of the two, but I still don't know what it actually does.

Thanks! That's a huge help! Funny enough, had the same issue with bloodborne. Took me an embarassingly long time to beat the first boss so I didn't wake that doll thing up for a long time.

Can you tell me what the blessing thing is then? The one the scarecrow thing offers in exchange for blood?

If you want it spoiled, blessings decrease sanity slightly.

There are npcs very close to the start, go left or right from where the Priest is and you find two more immediately. There is one a lot further but once you beat a boss that one moves closer. One of the most important ones is after you go down, up the stairs and the first room on the right.

Ah, ok, that's clever. Maybe I should just restart this game, I started it when I bought it years ago so I've probably forgotten stuff that was established early, although to be honest I've kind of always needed guides to finish the old metroidvania games too.

Thank you for the help. Just to make sure we are on the same page, when you say "decrease sanity" you mean it drives you more insane, right?

Its not a metroidvania, Usurper is, this one is just a manor where 80% is open from the start, and the locked doors are just boss shortcuts. Usurper is a full Metroidvania with skill path locking etc.

And yes Sanity is a mechanic in this game like the title implies, things will change as your sanity drops.

Oh I found a bit of that out already, and damn nice work btw. I won't spoil some of the creatures that start appearing, but I feel like you nailed the sanity thing in a way that other games really don't.

And my mistake, I guess I thought a "metroidvania" just referred to the large map with shortcuts and the leveling. I guess I completely forgot about the shortcuts being blocked by skills or abilities.

I guess I meant in games like this where you have a large area, tons of secrets, and a big system of interconnected rooms to explore.

Looked up Usurper because I desperately want some metroidvanaia, had no idea you made that too. Yeah, considering I got my first foil card from your game last night, I might be able to pick that one up. Thanks for the tip! Here I thought Shrouded was my dream game, a metroidvania with lovecraftian influence. Can't wait to try Usurper!

Alright, thanks!

I did already find the Knight 3 (I think?) game, looks pretty interesting.
