Lobby Stuck at "0" Players - Request for Information
For months players have reported issues with online multi-player where Player "A" creates a room or joins Player "B" in a lobby. All players ready-up and the timer countdown initiates.

Typically when all players press "ready" the timer will initiate but there is no need to wait for the full count down - the game will proceed to the next screen and all works normally.

But for some players rather than proceeding to the next screen, all players press ready and then the 15 second timer will simply count down to "0" and just stay there until the person having the issue backs out or the host quits.

First of all allow me to preface this with a few things:
  • The countdown freeze will happen if you have the issue, or if at least ONE person in your lobby has it. Point is, whether or not its YOU, it only takes ONE player in the lobby for the timer to freeze when the issue exists.

  • So how do you identify if it's you? You ask someone whose game is known to work, to try accessing a lobby with you. If the timer freezes, and you are CERTAIN your partner does not have the issue, then most likely the issue.

What's known about the issue from a diagnostics standpoint?
  • The lobby bug is client sided: i,e, your computer/steam/game is having the communication issue.

  • The issue may manifest after updating steam, but some people have the issue, while some people with the same steam build may not have any problems.

  • Reinstalling the game and the anti cheat most likely does not address the problem as the bug does not appear to be related specifically to the game or the associated anti cheat.

  • As most people who have had this issue for a length of time may know the only identified "workaround" has been to roll back steam to a previously non-problematic version. This solution has worked, but it's success as a workaround has been mixed and it's understood to be very tedious.

Seeing as there are no particular threads that identify a true fix to the problem, what I'd like to do is see if those having the issue can identify:
  • Which version of windows you are running
  • If windows 10 - what build of the OS are you running?
  • Relevant hardware specifications (processor, gfx card, RAM)
  • What is your current steam build
  • Do you run any firewalls? Does it happen to be blocking anything tied to steam or the game?
  • Has anyone tried adjusting their IP settings and seen changes in the countdown bug?

I cannot guarantee being able to find the "cause" of the problem. But what I do hope to accomplish with this thread is to get enough information that we can find a pattern to it. And possibly someone with better tech background than myself can provide some input since there are no other threads dedicated to this

I run a firewall but I don't block anything related to steam.
I have not adjusted my IP settings. I haven't felt the need to as this game has been the only program I run having any issues with connecting online and only due to steam's update.

To clarify, when I ask about firewalls here, i'm referring to checking the incoming and outgoing firewall traffic logs. For example, I run Comodo firewall, and sometimes I find that it blocks certain apps without my prior knowledge or contains them. This is is essentially what I'm asking - is if you see anything in the firewall logs that either blocks steam components, game components or windows components.

It seems the workaround doesn't work anymore. I tried to play in the old steam folder I got an error in the main menu.

Yeah the steam version eventually outpatched this work around. The issue seems to affect a lot of windows 7 users, but I'm not sure if that specifically is the cause so much as the OS updates being too far behind current ones

I posted this thread to try and weed out some user diagnostics last year but no one really got into submitting the info i needed
