I believe user setting are actually stored in Steam\userdata\xxxxxx\4920\remote\options.xml (where xxxxxx is your Steam ID 3) so check that nothing screwy is happening to that file

Same here since last update.
I made an backup of the options.xml but after renaming and start the game, all the settings are lost.
If i write protect the file, the game create a temp version with also missing changes.
i had this error ages ago but now its back.
Its so ♥♥♥♥♥ annoying.

The settings stay for the most part when but when i come back after the machine has rebooted its all ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Vanilla settings again.
All game options reset and all my NS2+ setting reset.
Getting to the point now when i boot up and am faced with 10 minutes of settings messing about i just turn the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing off and play something else :(

Even if you copy the settings from a backup into the empty resetet options.xml, all settings are gone again after gamestart.

Mine stay until i turn off the machine, then they are all Vanilla again.

Yes buddy your are indeed correct, setting files and folder ect to 'read only' makes no difference.
Renaming the folder and allowing the game to recreate it, redoing settings has no effect either as when i reboot my machine and launch the game my settings revert to Vanilla, again.

Maybe it's related to Steam Cloud. Can you check the ns2 logs and look for something like:
"error attempting to load remote file that does not exist" (it may be written different).

You can temporary try disabling steam cloud but make sure your backup is up to date.

Yes i don't, have not had Steam Cloud enabled for long time, ever since i had an issue with another game ect.

Thanks. Hmm, no if Steam Cloud then I think the error is about something else.

I don't remember all/correctly but:
Some time ago peoples options file also got reset. Turned out it was because of a mod adding something that could not be read by the game, so it reset the file all the time. Maybe check your options if there some parameter with weird symbols and remove it.

Also i recommend contacting the devs directly through discord, they are more active there
