Correct things that get you sh*t for doing
I know coms probably get a lot of abuse for making plays.

The most common one for me is gorging up the door to a freshly dropped hive instead going right to building the hive. There is rather large amount of people that think you should build the hive ASAP, which is wrong and I've seen it cost many fresh hives. If you make the door defensible first, and prioritize fighting at the door with your skulks, the hive 100 percent goes up. It's so early in the game that they can't just bust through clogs and webs with grenades they have to clumsily hack away with a knife or shoot away and risk getting caught reloading. You can also just replace any clogs they destroy

If youre building the hive with an undefended door and the skulks lose youre sitting there with no adrenaline and likely to die along with the hive.

The door? IDK, it seems inconvenient most of the time (it really depends on the room geometry)

But at least place a few clog towers in front of you so you have cover when you build. Not placing at least a 2 clogs high tower (or two) in front of you is a serious mistake. You're dead meat if you don't.

And don't worry about skulks fighting at the door, you're bait enough for marines as a gorge so that skulks should win the fight if soldiers target you first.

I think I saw it recently in a 6v6 match with a very experienced commander, he was gorgein his own hive, didn't expect marines, didn't put a few clogs, got rekt.
With a gorged up door you send babblers through the clogs which are more things they have to shoot and reload which makes it easy for skulks to clean up. Also if any marines jump through somehow they get caught in webs and hydras and get chewed up just the same while their teammates aim is blocked by clogs.

If its a hive location where the door is too big and open like elevator on tram just put down hydras out of view and web the entrance. It gives you notice to escape and time for the team to come, plus the chip damage will make the marines 2 bites. Periodically throw babblers at the door too like when youre adrenaline is bottoming out so that theyre already at the door when someone is coming. If you layer the webs just right (which you can do on any geometry) they will be forced to shoot the babblers leaving them vulnerable to skulks or a spit if the skulks don't finish the job.

Either way fighting with skulks at the door still makes more sense than potentially watching them die and being left there building a hive at 60 percent. A vulnerable hive at 60, 70, even 80 percent if its more than a few marines incoming, isn't worth anything to anyone.
